Flow

Well the scores are in and the results are out...

Challenge Results.

Thanks to all those that entered Challenge II - "Shadow" in…

1st - 37 / 40 - nev for this shot of a dynamic peter pan style shadow "Be Free"

2nd - 36 / 40 - silbo for the industrial staircase "Exodus"

3rd - 34 / 40 -  Frank aka cheapsuit for this inventive bicycle ride "Shadow"

I'm grateful to all those that entered and hope the comments were useful?

This is the full list of submissions and the reviews are on the previous blog pages where they were entered.
photosam, silbo, minelmio, psychodudu (drewble), marybeth, rotund pictures, petra, aksel, cheapsuit, pixelpie, snapsequence (steve), nev, myirisheye, mal, urban8, jasdg and louis.

The images were judged in four categories...

Relevance and Creativity
The competition will define the criteria for entries so how close to the definition is the shot. For example a theme of 'dog' would really need to have a dog as the focal point or main feature.

Overall impact
You can take a perfectly framed picture, appropriately composed and executed but it can still be dull…does it have any wow factor?

Composition
Is it appropriately composed, not necessarily rule of thirds or symmetrically presented but are the focal parts in the right place? Is it natural on the eye?

Quality of image
For example is it free from camera shake, noise and straight e.g. a seascape horizon that isn't flat or building that rises at an unintentional angle.

Feel free to choose your own favourites...

Bye for now...next theme later in the month...

God Damn Fix! I was robbed! lol lol

You could have picked a nicer boat under the bridge for this one! lol

Lovely shot. mal
BeakerSt: If only you'd been the only entrant...maybe next time. wink
Gracias Simon. Tu challenge se está convirtiendo en un clásico.!!

Simon Thanks. Your challenge is becoming a classic one!

En mi apuesta, mi preferida era la de Chris (rotund pictures) wink

In my bet, my favourite was the one of Chris (rotund pictures)wink

Your photo is very nice.
BeakerSt: Thanks JA, I can understand why you like Chris's, it's a nice shot. smile

Hi Simon - just a word of thanks for all the trouble you went to to host the competition. I hope I happen on your site again when next you have a competition. Anyhow, I scanned all the entries, your comments etc. and I agree with 1 - 3. Not that it matter much, but you did go to a lot of effort.

I think this boat can be heading for the bermuda triangle - the darker side of the picture. Great composition.
BeakerSt: Thanks for the thanks Louis, thanks also to you as without people sending in entries it would be rather quiet! I only want people to have a bit of fun and get a bit of honest feedback.

Next competition is out later this month...watch this space...

Thanks Simon for all the time and trouble to judge all the photo's and make the comments. I appreciate it a lot!
Looking forward to the next one..smile
Petra
BeakerSt: Hi Petra, thanks for taking part, I hope the comments are useful still.
I like your shot today - especially the angle. You have made the boat look like a plain, with that beautiful white line following smile

Thanks also for spending time judging our pics - I appriciate it, and will enter the next one if there is a next one smile
BeakerSt: Thanks Aksel, it was a pleasure to look at so many interpretations. I learn a lot from studying other styles too.

There will be a next one, my intention is to host one every month. smile

Simon i am pretty chuffed to have got pole position in this challenge. I for one appreciate the amount of time you have spent in putting yourself through this exercise. Honest feedback is always appreciated. I am looking forward to the next exciting installment. As for your shot today you don't often see the ferries from this angle so it is very nice. my eye would have liked it rotated a little but it doesn't detract from the shot.
BeakerSt: I'm guessing clockwise? ...if yes then I agree now you mention it. smile Loved your shot, guess that's why it scored so highly.

Sorry simon, I'm a bit old-fashioned and I'm just not keen on the angle of this one. But enough of that, I hand my crown over to Nev, the well-deserving winner of this challenge. You deserve a great deal of thanks for the time and trouble you put into the challenges, particularly giving your challenging circumstances. May your band get broader very soon.
BeakerSt: It's all good feedback, I think the theory of the shot worked but I've received a couple of comments about the composition. Sadly I didn't take any alternatives.

Thanks for the note of thanks too. Moving date for phone companies is 25th with broadband hopefully within a couple of weeks of that...fingers crossed!!
