photoblog image Barcode Lemon

Barcode Lemon

Theme submission.

My take on it.  We don't get fruit anymore, we don't get seasonal local produce.  We get what the multinational supermarkets provide us and if it's not the identical in shape, colour, texture and taste to the one we had a month ago as consumers we reject it.  We won't be fobbed off with an imperfectly shaped lemon with a couple of skin blemishes and more than the prescribed number of pips.  We want to be able to cut the same amount of slices for our G&T's.  We want a perfect lemon...

Who's the fool?

Resubmitted with focus adjusted.

Much improved. We are not too picky about the 'look' of the fruit here in Nigeria. As far as its good and ripe, its edible
BeakerSt: Luckily I am at the same house as the original shot and they have one lemon left (big G&T fans). The lemons I buy aren't individually barcoded so it stood out to me. Guess I was destined to redo it.

In terms of the 'look' of fresh produce I am entirely in agreement with you. In most cases the look has no bearing on it's taste. Shame that consumerism has gone mad because the West and the global marketplace. Foodstuffs aren't even seasonal any more, salad used to be summer only when I was a lad.

I appreciate that I have not seen all the fruit shots and I am not in the shooting club so to speak, but this image is great and is both creative and different, bravo that man well done..
BeakerSt: Very kind words Shooter, thanks.

If you go to 'List all photoblogs' and type in 'Theme1' in the search bar at the top you should see most of the submissions...if you are interested that is! wink
Do you know - I think when you resubmitted this, you lost the original comments from Reza, Idleye and myself. I don't mean our comments were original....oh you know what I mean..
BeakerSt: et voila...I had them in my unassigned photo file so this is the only way I can preserve them. It wasn't a deliberate attempt to delete them wink I appreciate all comments and felt I could remedy the highlighted problem. Thanks Barbara

Very Cool shot BUT.....focus on the focus. There is none.
I'd like the focus both on the pores of the lemon and the sticker.

Idleye from Australia 9 June 2006

idleye says ... yep, good sensibility, good idea, well executed.
I may be wrong but the lemon (the real multinational one) skin is out of focus because (reading Mr B's words) it is not a true/real lemon - in fact in our modern commercial world a real fruit is irrelevant.
But what is important is that you believe that it is a lemon cos that is what the label says! And the label is a brand that is vying for your attention and $$.
So the label is the crucial focal point that the photographer/artist is drawing your attention to to inform you that you are being merchandised.
More or less right, Mr B?
